SYSMOD book cover

I am happy to announce my new book about SYSMOD. SYSMOD is a MBSE toolbox for pragmatic modeling of systems. It is well-suited to be used with SysML. The book provides a set of methods with roles and outputs. Concrete guidances and examples show how to apply the methods with SysML.

Today SYSMOD or more specifically customizations of SYSMOD are used in many industrial projects.

Many years ago I have found the Systems Modeling Toolbox (SYSMOD) while I worked together with other MBSE experts on the first version of SysML. SYSMOD is a discovery and
not an invention. It consists of already well-known methods and practices. I am more an editor than an author of SYSMOD and have collected practices, transferred some of them from the software engineering to the systems engineering discipline, and have described the links between the practices to combine them to a methodology.

In 2006, I published SYSMOD in the German book “Systems Engineering mit SysML/UML”
and 2008 in the English edition “Systems Engineering with SysML/UML”. I published
the third edition of the German book in 2014 (We4). Besides SYSMOD the books provide a
comprehensive description of the SysML.

A disadvantage of classical books is the low frequency of updates. That was my main motivation to publish this book about SYSMOD with my own publishing organisation. It is not a replacement of my other MBSE books. For example this book will not contain a full description of SysML. It presents the most recent version of SYSMOD. I continuously update the toolbox based on feedbacks and experiences of industrial projects.

The book provides a set of methods with roles and outputs. Concrete guidances and examples show how to apply the methods with SysML.

  • Requirements modeling
  • System Context
  • Use Cases
  • Logical and Product Architectures
  • Guidances how to create a SysML model
  • Full-fledged SysML example
  • Complete definition of a profile for SYSMOD

The book is available at leanpub.com/sysmod.
